Electronics Recycling up for City Council vote this week!
We need your help to contact our council members in support of Electronic Recycling.
The Houston City Council will vote this week to approve a new contract regarding restarting monthly Electronics Recycling. Please call our Councilmembers and tell them you want e-waste recycling services back in Kingwood! The vote is on their calendar for Tuesday Feb 9th or Wednesday Feb 10th, agenda item #10. Call or email today and tell them:
Dear Councilmember, please vote yes to support the new Electronic Recycling contract with CompuCycle. We in Kingwood miss our Electronics Recycling Service and want it restored!
For almost three years the City partnered with CompuCycle to offer free electronic recycling the first Saturday of every month. In July of last year, without much warning, the collection was suspended. One of the most asked questions on our web site and to our phone number is: �When will the next electronic recycling be held?� The answer we have gotten month after month from Councilman Martin�s office and the City Solid Waste Department is �a contract is being negotiated�. Now the contract has been signed and is awaiting city council approval, which should happen this week.
While there are other options for Electronic Recycling, this is a service the residents of Kingwood have supported strongly. For the first six months of 2015, the collections averaged 18,714 pounds per month. We believe that many of these valuable resources and sometimes hazardous materials are now going to the landfill hidden in trash bags, cans, and dumpsters. If you have items that you desperately need to get rid of, please go to our web site for alternative options
In November we voted in five at-large council members and Mr. Martin in our District E. Below are their contact numbers and addresses. If you think this is a service the City should provide us, do contact all of them as soon as possible and ask them approve the new contract! If we remain silent, they may feel this is an area of the 2016 budget they can cut!
